Uploading files to your website with FTP FTP - 'File Transfer Protocol', that's what it stands for and that's all you need to know..... Now feel free to forget about it, the meaning , that is. :-) You're still gonna need the FTP. Hi there, do you fit into the following category? You've had a website built for you by somebody else in the recent past but now you want to take a more active role in managing your own site? This could be for a variety of reasons, chief among them probably being that you want to be in charge of your own website, a noble cause indeed, who doesn't? There's a slight snag though... you dont know how to get the files from your PC to your webspace. Happily by the end of this tutorial, that will no longer be a problem 'cos you'll be uploading files with the best of 'em. To manage your website properly, there are lots of other things you'll need to learn, none of them difficult I hasten to add, but for the moment, we're just gonna concentrate on moving files from your computer to your webspace.
File Transfer Protocol - FTPOops, I've said it again... *LOL, ok, well now you've got no reason to not know what it is. FTP is simply some software ( in other words, a computer program) that we all need to move our files around the web. This in turn leads to some basic questions such as: Which program should I use? How much does it cost? Where can I get it? How difficult is it to use?
| Which FTP Program should I use? | There are lots about but I prefer AceFTP because it's so simple to use
| | How much does it cost? | Good News! It's totally free!
| | Where can I get it? | http://www.software.visicommedia.com
| I'm not sure I'll be able to understand how to use it. :-( | Nonsense! I'm gonna take you through it, step by step. Trust me.... you'll be fine. |
