FTP - Uploading a Picture

This is the very first screen you will see. Take a good look at it, there's absolutely nothing to be scared of, you just fill in a few details and away you go. To use the AceFTP program you will need your FTP hostname (your domain name, mine is thenaildirectory.com), your username and your password. If you're not sure about any of these contact your website hosting company for details. Do NOT share your username and password with anybody else unless you trust them implicitly! If you do allow someone to access your site to assist you, you can change your password to something new once they've left.

Transfer those Files

Ok, let's say that we've got a photo called pc-kick.jpg contained in a folder called 'Pics' that is presently in the 'Nail Directory' folder on our desktop. We want to transfer a copy of that photo to the 'Pics' folder ( a folder is just another name for directory) that is in the 'Nails' folder in our webspace. First, start up the FTP program and log in with your details. Immediately you'll see something similar to the picture below, the program is communicating with your host server to allow you to access and edit your website. You can see the files and folders on your desktop are contained in the window on the left, and your website files and folders are in the window on the right.

Now we need to look inside the folders we mentioned above. We do this by simply double-clicking on each folder, the one on the desktop first and then the one in our webspace. Once you've done this, you can see the files and folders contained in each.
